Today has been a day of days. At least the morning has.
I've had very little sleep, primarily becasue my oldest son has been sick the last day or so. He;s been running a fever probably from a cold. WE've been judiciously dosing him with Motrin to help keep the fever down, but last

      • New Netbook
        02/03/09
I'm typing this on my new netbook . It's an Acer Aspire One from Walmart ($298 retail). Sounds like a plug because it is. I get no money from this, but I like to extole the virtue of value. I know in my last entry I talked about thriftiness and saving for the important purchases, but t

      • It's a habit
        02/02/09
I call my father every weekend. It's a habit. Something I just got used to doing when my mother was still alive. She would always say, "Don't forget to call your father," almost as if she knew she would not always be there to make sure. I don't suppose there was any fore

      • He did what...?!?
        01/02/09
My oldest son is a character. Not just in the way that he acts, he is three after all, but also in what says. He speaks clearly for a 3 year old, more so than most 5 year olds I've dealt with. I watch other kids his age stumble through the pidgin-english stage learning new words. My son? F

      • I was wrong...
        12/27/08
For the last 7 years or so, my family and I have been priviledged to enjoy a tradition set up by a good friend of mine. Rather than spend money on gifts that may or may not be appropriate, or for that matter even worrying about getting the gifts, he treats his friends to dinner at some restaraunt.

      • Happy Holidays!
        12/26/08
Hope you had a Merry Christmas.
Notice the dichotomy in the title and first sentence? I believe strongly that one should celebrate the holidays as one knows best. Political correctness aside, I will say Happy Holidays but personally I mean Merry Christmas simply because I'm not

      • Talk about thick....
        12/11/08
I found something out... I'm not alone in this part of the world. Not the real world... I'm never alone here. Not the virtual world... there are too many to count and one can be sure that they can find a partner to level in an number of MMOs out there. No, I speak of my blog. I seem to

      • No rest for the wicked... or me for that matter...
        12/07/08
My sons are a very big part of my life, from the time I wake up (or get woken up as the case most often is), until the time I go to bed (which is usually in the chair in my older son's room).

Most children sleep until 8 or 9 in the morning maybe take a nap midday and are asleep by 8

      • Party time, party time, excellent, excellent
        12/06/08
My son's 3rd birthday party was today. Nevermind the fact that it was 4 days after the fact. When you are working parents and so are all your friends, birthdays never mean much until the party happens. Yes, we celebrate the day with a little cake and song, but the party occurs on a weekend w

      • Night time thoughts....
        12/05/08
Nowadays I end up bringing my oldest son to his bed at night and sitting with him while he drifts off to sleep. This is a practice that sometimes brings me great joy... It is what it is. A little quality quiet time with my son. We start off in "mommy&daddy's room" where we read

      • Dreams
        12/03/08
My 3 year old woke up this morning crying at around 4:30am. Not too different from most mornings, except for the crying part. When I inquired as to the source of his distress, he briefly recounted that his puppet was stolen. More inquiries from myself and my wife brought out more of the story. I

      • Why this is the way it is...
        12/02/08
Today my oldest turns 3 years old. Man, sometimes I wonder where the time goes. I've been thinking about starting this for a long time, and now I guess is the best time to work on it. I've been thinking a lot of how much I know and want to be able to tell my children. I know that all s

      • My Eulogy for my Mother
        11/24/08
On Saturday, I said good-bye to a very important person in my life, my mother. I suppose I said good-bye 3 weeks ago on the day that she died, but I don't think it hit home until this day. The preparations were exhausting for my family, as they were in charge of doing all the setup since I li
